“For in India a man is not scavenger because of his work. He is a scavenger because of his birth, irrespective of the question whether he does scavenging or not." That was th situation of the scavenging community of Yusufpur, Mohammadabad, Uttar Pradesh a decade back. But it is changing though a very slow but steady process. Most of the manual scavengers have felt their menial work and ventured in taking newer profession.
They have know the fact that the change is going to come only due to education. Education became the biding force behind the community's liberation. Some of the women who continued doing this work were forced to leave the work due to the change in the younger generation.
The young in this area are the energy shells.
